From Comfort to Efficiency: A Holistic Approach to Livestock Welfare through Cow Mat Distribution
In pursuit of a comprehensive trans-formative strategy, the livestock sector has actively committed to advancing livestock development with a focus on modernizing dairy farming machinery and infrastructural facilities. This strategic initiative is highlighted by the targeted distribution of specialized cow mats, designed for the housing of bovines, particularly cows, in environments such as dairy farms or dedicated livestock facilities. These cow mats serve a myriad of purposes, including providing comfort to the housed cows, elevating hygiene standards, and reducing the risk of injuries.
The primary goal of this initiative is to create a more ergonomic and hygienic environment for the cows, thereby promoting superior herd management practices. In the fiscal year 2023-2024, the livestock department of Lhuentse dzongkhag meticulously procured a total of 90 cow mats through a cost-sharing arrangement of 60:40 percent. These mats were then strategically supplied to Minjey Gewog and Meanbi Gewog, benefiting 3 males, 19 females, and 9 males, as well as 10 females, respectively. This proactive approach underscores the commitment to advancing the livestock sector and ensuring the well-being and efficiency of bovine occupants in these regions.
