The fabricated greenhouse installation coordinated by the Dzongkhag
Agriculture Sector for the vegetable group of Tongphugang under Tshenkhar, Lhuentse is underway.
Two sets of fabricated greenhouses (5*40 m) for protected agriculture are being installed for the group based on the cost-sharing model where the project supported 60% of the cost and 40% by the beneficiary.
Prior to the program, the group comprising of four female and three male members has been formed solely for growing tomatoes in response to ban on imported vegetables including tomatoes. Therefore, the group will focus on tomato production under protected conditions. Currently, the group aims to produce 10 MT tomatoes to substitute imported tomato, thereby boost internal vegetables production. The group will be linked to the schools in Lhuentse Dzongkhag through school linking program for the definite market for tomatoes. Further, the group will be using the greenhouse for growing winter chili at a commercial scale.
Simultaneously, the group members are being trained so that they can extend the greenhouse installation services to other farmers in their community.
