Land Development at Chudhawong Begins

The Chudhawoong farmers under Pakaling Chiwog, Radhi Gewog, Trashigang Dzongkhag anticipates for the land development to mark the new beginnings for organic vegetable cultivation in Radhi gewog. A total of 27 farmers will be working together towards achieving a common goal “Highly Productive and Sustainable Demo Commercial Vegetable Farm” and initiate resilient livelihoods enhancement. To achieve the goal, the community will be working on 27 acres of land, out of which 15 acres will undergo land development starting today, 24th March 2020.

The farmers will be supported with a package of programs such as land development, water pump irrigation, solar fencing, 20 sets of agriculture drip irrigation system, 16 numbers of the fabricated greenhouse and vegetable seeds with fund support from CARLEP-IFAD. The Dzongkhag and Gewog Agriculture Sector with support from gewog administration are implementing the program with technical assistance from ARDC Wengkhar.

On the developed land, the farmers will focus on commercial vegetable cultivation such as potato, chili, cabbage, tomato, cauliflower, broccoli, beans, and leaf vegetables. The farmers will also focus on the production of off-season chili and tomato. The farmers also have a prospect of planting pineapple, passion fruit and cardamom on the edge of the field to utilize the land effectively.

Currently, the community is divided into three groups to increase the working efficiency and productions with shared responsibilities. The community member comprises of 10 females and 17 males. Of the three groups (2 mixed groups and 1 all-women group), two groups are led by a woman including the female group of eight members.
