Climate Smart Village of Lhuentse Dzongkhag

Following the valued Aid Memoire of the 1st CARLEP Supervision Mission from IFAD, M&EO and GKMO from OPM joined the CSV team (ARDC, RLDC, EAs of Kurtoed Gewog and CM of Agriculture and Livestock from OPM) in Jatshabi village of Kurtoed Gewog under Lhuentse Dzongkhag on 29th November, 2016.
Jatshabi is a small community with just 11 HHs located at an altitude of 1550 masl. The village is now the first CSV of Lhuentse Dzongkhag under CARLEP.
Apart from paddy as a staple crop, people of Jatshabi grow millet, buckwheat and maize as a supplementary crop. They also grow vegetables but in a very limited scale, hardly enough for the self-consumption. They mostly rear local cattle breed with 6 to 9 heads per household in an average. Crop damaged by wildlife and relative accessibility to market are the biggest challenges for the Jatshabi Community.
As a climate smart village, Jatshabi will be supported with the climate smart technologies like the biogas installation and supplying of indigenous animal breeds as per their willingness. However, the detail plan will be produced by the technical team led by ARDC through Participatory Action Planning. While the CSV initiations for this financial year 2016-17 will be led by ARDC, the replication from the next financial year will be followed-up by Dzongkhag under CARLEP.
Meanwhile, the planning for the two CSV of Mongar and Samdrup Jongkhar is completed, the team will soon visit the pre-selected CSV of Trashigang, Trashiyangtse and Pemagatshel Dzongkhag for the necessary actions.
